Universit:

ite's-

work in promoting British

cultural ideas and indirectly British

interests in China and the Far East.

The refusal of the petition

Would

keen duphointment

certainly cause distreee, in Hong Kong,

where the University not only enjoyed

the patronage of His Late Majesty, but

has the honour of a personal connection

with the present King. The University

of Malta not only ranks as the oldest

University in the Colonial Empire, but

we feel also that if his Majesty, who is

well-known in the Island through his

visits there, became a Patron of the

harticularly in present incunturces

University, it would, have an excellent

effect politically.

The two cases seem to be

equally deserving.

Possibly His Majesty

belrefered to

might consider the solution of extending

He honom t

his Patronage to both Universities.
